Okay so usually I post once a week, but I could not help but post twice this week because trend alerts! So lately I have been noticing the slip dress make a comeback, lingerie chic right? A little history about slip dresses is that they were introduced in the 90's as undergarments that replaced corsets. Slip dresses were more favored than corsets because of their comfortable material and there was more room to breathe. The slip dress was usually worn under the dresses of flapper girls, and during the 1990's fashion designers began to create dresses that were inspired by the slip dress and then recently was brought back to life during the 21st century and reintroduced just recently when it had appeared during the runway show from Yves Saint Laurent's S/S 16 collection. Even though a prominent designer featured the slip dress and they probably sell their slip dresses for more than your rent, the great thing about slip dresses and is that you can practically find one at any price range since they are vintage, so hit up those thrift stores and see what you can find!
When wearing a slip dress, you can pair it with mostly any look. Some of the most popular styles while wearing one would be to pair it with a blazer, bomber jacket, or no jacket at all! Then with shoes, pair your slip dress with either strappy heels, ankle boots, or even sneakers to create a more casual look. One style that I have been seeing online when I was browsing for a slip dress was the layered look, wearing a plain t-shirt under the slip dress. So whenever you feel like dressing casual but you want to have that chic and sleek look, wearing a t-shirt and a satin slip dress will hit both styles.
Here are a few examples of how the slip dress trend is worn:
Now go out and find one and add your own personal style to it! I know I will!
